FIFA as a franchise and in particular Ultimate Team has come under a lot of criticism in recent years, making it vital that this year is a success. The idea of FUT is simple: you play matches, unlock players and build your team of world beaters. However, in recent versions of FIFA it has become stale and changes have had little impact for the huge number of players that spend hundreds of hours in this area of the game.

A host of new features are set to be added which should provide the biggest overhaul to the mode in a number of years, and fans will be hoping it sees the series return to its best.

Love it or hate it, Ultimate Team will remain the main mode in FIFA this year. But will it be any different than FIFA 20? Here are the six biggest changes for Ultimate Team this year.

6. FUT Friendlies

With each year, Ultimate Team has become more serious and competitive, which for a lot of players could sap the fun out of the mode which they are likely to spend most of their time in.

In FIFA 20, during the week there were only two modes that you could play matches in: Squad Battles and Division Rivals. Squad Battles sees you face off against the CPU, while even in the opening months Division Rivals was so competitive it felt like players were competing in Weekend League all the time.

FUT Friendlies should allow for something a bit different for players that want to test new teams out.

Enjoyment for the player has to be at the heart of any game and sometimes Ultimate Team can lose that. FUT Friendlies could be vital for some players that just want to pop on every now and then and play a few matches in a less competitive environment.
