The road to Lincoln's betrayal just got a whole lot clearer.

Well folks, Gamescom has arrived, and with it the gaming industry's last major event before the ever-hectic release schedule of the winter months. It's hard to believe we're approaching the end of August already, I know, but at least we're getting closer and closer towards the cream of the crop of this year's titles - including, yes, Hangar 13's Mafia III.

And what better way to kickstart the year's latest convention than with a suitably cinematic trailer for what's shaping up to be one of October's most hotly-anticipated titles? It's looking mighty impressive so far, but what makes this trailer so great is that it finally divulges some of the details behind what gave rise to Lincoln Clay's one man war against the Italian Mob.

In typical '60s fashion, the root cause behind the double-crossing, backstabbing and eventual betrayal is laid squarely at the feet of a successful heist; not one gone awry in an Italian Job sense, but the type of take that turns loyal allies into, well, conniving criminals with a literal mob mentality. I, for one, certainly can't wait to soak it all up come October.
