Though The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going to dominate most of the year-end Game of the Year conversations, there's no doubt that Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the year's very best games, and by far the strongest AAA exclusive released for the PS4 in 2017.

With its top-notch visuals, fascinating world-building, compelling protagonist and slickly smooth gameplay, Horizon delivered above and beyond most expectations of developer Guerrilla Games, who can now count themselves among the hottest blockbuster developers working today.

Naturally, fans are already busily discussing the sequel, which will likely turn up in 2020, perhaps as a PS5 launch title, and how it can improve upon the terrific original. Excellent though Horizon was, there are definitely a few areas where it could've been fine-tuned, and hopefully Guerilla will take on-board the constructive criticism as well as all the rapturous praise.
