A new timeline on the Metal Gear Solid website (seen here - navigate to the saga page) allows players to interact with a surprisingly cohesive breakdown of the universes' fiction in a linear fashion. The timeline plots real world historical events in conjunction with events from the Metal Gear time line, making for some much needed clarity. Fans of the series are also encouraged to get nostalgic and make note of their own reactions to events on a separate €œplayer timeline€. Predictably enough this timeline links in with the users social networking accounts and encourages you to open up and express how you felt during the series' bigger moments. Interestingly the contentious new game Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance (previously 'Rising'), unveiled to the disappointment of many at the recent VGAs, makes no appearance on the timeline. Though this is unsurprising as this new feature of the website is doubtless a marketing tool for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, posted in the hope that you'll express your delight at remembering that fight with Psycho Mantis, thus posting it to your Twitter and Facebook accounts hoping you'll friends will remember it too and in turn in hoping that one or all of you will rush out and buy the collection. Considering the pedigree of the franchise and how good it's been to consumers over the years this is a nice addition for fans and new comers alike. And after all, If it works and stirs those Metal Gear cravings, now is the best time to get them, run out and buy the collection before this misguided train wreck lands: http://youtu.be/5SNo8h-KfAU Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance is set for release in 2012.
