NBA 2K16: 10 Most Overrated Players
Which athletes are getting a pass on name value alone?
The recent release of NBA 2K16 was always going to guarantee one thing: debates over player ratings. With sports games so highly scrutinised these days, it's no surprise to see internet forums and social media feeds explode into life with regard to the ranking of virtual players, whether it concerns FIFA, Madden, or indeed NBA 2K. Player ratings are very serious indeed, as proven when Twitter damn near imploded upon the reveal Kobe Bryant's 85 - a career low for the Los Angeles Laker. Many expressed their shock, claiming that the shooting guard had been severely underrated. Many countered with the argument that Kobe is undergoing a natural decline towards the end of his career, and that an 85 rating is entirely appropriate. But what about those who are overrated? In a league as commercial as the NBA, name value holds a great deal of stock. Many players continue to coast on the back of their prior achievements, and the stardom generated by such exploits, even if these triumphs were five or ten years ago. Many others find their reputations artificially inflated by hype, usually precociously talented youngsters who are hailed as the next big thing upon bursting into the NBA - despite the fact that their overall game is still very raw. Whatever the reason, the NBA has a tendency to overrate many of its players - and the virtual representation of the league is no exception.
