After an uncommonly brief hype period for a new console, the Nintendo Switch is here, and the gaming press at large have had a few weeks to tinker around with the new device Nintendo hopes will erase all those bad memories of their largely abandoned Wii U.
It's clear from the rather mixed response to the console so far that it's going to be a marathon rather than a sprint back into the general public's good graces, though it remains to be seen whether the switch gimmick itself is going to make a sufficient impact with the casual gaming crowd.
The Switch's promise is clear, even in spite of some glaring issues Nintendo stubbornly refused to remedy before launch, so it just depends on how eagerly they will capitalise on their shiny new device, or simply end up condemning it to become another commercial disappointment. Just announce another damn Metroid Prime game already, OK?
