In a case of good news/bad news for Playstation fans, a recent Bloomberg report has confirmed that Sony is still on track to launch the PS5 in 2020, and that production of the machines has not been impacted by the current global crisis.

It's not all smooth sailing though. The report also revealed that while the production plans have not changed, Sony's marketing has been heavily impacted by current affairs, which explains why fans are still yet to see the console itself, and why the rollout of the Dualsense controller seemed so random.

Similarly, according to Bloomberg's insiders, the company plans to produce fewer machines in general across the first year due to the hefty cost attributed to the PS5's specs. Unlike the PS4, which produced 7.5 million in its first two quarters, Sony will be making 5 to 6 million PS5 units across the same period.

With the large jump in technology, Sony are going to be taking a heavier loss on the new machine than the last, even at a higher price point. That, combined with what's happening to the economy globally, lack of marketing and the uncertainty surrounding the consumer desire for new machines is seemingly making the company a little cautious and limiting production.
