This still image shows what is still a work in progress, but I am still very much intrigued by what I see here. The Portal games do have a particular aesthetic to them, and I feel that what we can see here encapsulates the feel of those aesthetics quite well. It also gives the animated film a very slick, Pixar-like style to it, which is definitely a plus. The image shown comes from an animated short by the name of Companionship by Alex Zemke, which has been described as a "tale of love, loss and cubes." Zemke certainly has an impressive track record when it comes to working with animation, as you can find such titles as Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Smurfs film on his resume. So it is safe to say that he very much knows what he's doing, and the background in gaming is a reassurance to any concerned that he will have a good idea of how to translate a game narrative onto film. This is a pitfall many the video game film has fallen into, (as they usually choose to work from cutscenes, ignoring any parts of the story being told through gameplay and such) but I don't think that is going to happen with this particular translation. Companionship is a project of passion for Zemke, so there is no confirmation or even clue as to when this film will be released to the public, but I very much hope that it will be soon. If you wish to see more screens from the game, you should check out Zemke's DeviantArt page.
