Sony Confirms PS Vita Coming 2012 for U.S. and Europe

We will get our hands on the systems in early 2012, though it will ship in Japan this year.

Sony today squashed rumors that the PS Vita would be coming this year but did confirm it was on the horizon in both North America and Europe for next year, however there was still no firm release date given. The only timeline we were given was the PS Vita will release in Japan later this year and North America/Europe early 2012. Also Sony commented on how the 3DS price drop will not effect the pricing of the PS Vita:
"There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price."
I actually think Sony is missing a big opportunity by not releasing the PS Vita this year in North America and Europe. With the 3DS sales lower than predicted Sony could have gained an upper hand by putting the system out this year. It will be interesting to see if the Nintendo 3DS price drop causes a huge uprise in sales for Nintendo and what that means for the PS Vita. Do you think the price drop of the 3DS will have any affect on PS Vita sales? Price: $249 for the Wi-Fi only version and $299 with 3G.
