The drip drip of information regarding the forthcoming "Star Trek" video game continues. A new set of screenshots have been released as well as details about the villain in the game. Its been confirmed that all the cast of the rebooted Star Trek will lend their voices to the game with Chis Pine and Zachary Quinto being the focus as Kirk and Spock. The developers, Digital Extremes, are describing the gameplay between Kirk and Spock as asymmetric co-op which means that when both are on screen, they will assist each other to advance the story with the AI taking over if a human player is not available. An example of this is at one point Kirk distracts the enemy by shooting at him and Spock goes around behind and scans to find a week spot. People who have played the demo have said the banter between Kirk and Spock is a highlight of the game. The game is a prequel to the upcoming ''Star Trek 2'' and is supposed to link up with the film. So that makes it more intriguing that the villains in this game are The Gorn, the reptile aliens seen in the first season, Original series episode, ''Arena.'' The story revolves around the Gorn attacking Federation planets including a Vulcan settlement which leads the crew of the Enterprise to investigate. Apart from the type of Gorn already seen in Star Trek, you will have different variations including a dog-type Gorn. They will also process an ability to spray venom that can kill and brainwash victims. In the episode ''Arena,'' the Gorn were only attacking Federation outposts because the believed they infringed their area of space and felt they had to defend themselves. The moral of the episode was that just because the Gorn look aggressive, it doesn't mean they are attacking without good reason. And it also led to Captain Kirk famously sparing the life of the Gorn and declaring that he wont kill him. So it will be interesting to find out why they are the aggressors in this game. The game, published by Namco Bandai, is scheduled for a Q1 2013 release and you can see the screenshots below. There is also a video for anyone who needs a reminder of how terrifying the Gorn can be.
