Warner Bros. SELLING Mortal Kombat & Batman Devs To EA?!
Warner Bros.' gaming division could soon be no more.
According to a report from CNBC, Warner Media's parent company AT&T is looking into selling off its gaming division to help offset deepening debt. The site cites an anonymous insider apparently working at the company, who's stated that Warner Bros' development studios - which include Rocksteady, NetherRealm and Avalanche - are being put up as part of the whole company for a lofty $4 billion price.
Apparently, Take-Two Interactive, EA and Activision Blizzard are all interested at the moment, eager to put in their own bids for the company's assets. While the sale would not mean these companies own the rights to the publisher's biggest IP - such as Batman, Harry Potter or LEGO - it has been suggested that it would come with a licensing deal for these franchises, allowing some of the developers to continue their work at another company.
Of course, a deal like this doesn't just happen overnight, and there's no guarantee it will go ahead anyway, as AT&T is set to usher in a new CEO this July.
Either way, a reality where EA is in charge of both Star Wars AND Batman in the gaming sphere is very much a possibility going forward.
