After years of sparring it seems that the war of the worms is far from over. Team 17 have announced today that a brand new entry in the beloved turn-based series is on its way to PC and consoles. Featuring a newly built engine, Worms Revolution will be the next game in the 17 year old franchise and will also mark the appearance of several innovative new weapons. One of the new weapons (Water Balloon) makes a prominent appearance in the promotional title logo, suggesting that the aquatic projectiles will be one of the most heavily touted of the new bunch. As well as brand new weaponry, Team 17 have promised that new features and challenges have been introduced as well as the comforting return of series traditions like the Super Sheep and Holy Hand Grenade. Rather than following in the footsteps of the recent Worms 3D: Ultimate Mayhem, Worms Revolution will stick to its series roots by offering up classic 2D gameplay. Despite the fact that Worms Ultimate Mayhem was actually rather good, the return to 2D will no doubt please the many fans of the series whom were left unimpressed by the numerous jumps the series made into 3D. You can watch the initial trailer below to catch an early glimpse of the game in action. It's looking good, but the trailer shows little beyond the classic worms gameplay that we're all familiar with. Hopefully we'll soon see some of the "new features" that Team 17 have hinted towards to make Worms Revolution truly live up to its title.Worms Revolution will launch on PC and Console in Q3 2012.
