Breath of the Wild continues to light up peoples' Game of the Year lists, just as much as it's reminding us why we love video games in the first place. A truly masterful, handcrafted experience that proves less is more, doing away with the sort of busywork-filled 'open-world templates' that dog the likes of Ubisofts output, Nintendo have boldly reinvented The Legend of Zelda for a whole new generation, perfectly executing on one hell of an initial vision.

That said, in holding back on advanced tutorials and keeping the goal of the game being "Regain your strength and fight the evil Ganon", you're free to explore in any direction, discover all manner of hidden locations, weapons, quests, puzzle rooms and more. There's a glorious realisation that you're in an actual world of possibility, not some check-box list of things to do, 'because it's a video game'.

And whilst spending only a few minutes with Breath of the Wild is likely to take yours away (that opening shot over the cliff puts Bethesda's to shame), Nintendo have embedded this new Zelda with secrets, detail and reward on literally every level.
