We haven't seen a Zone of Enders game since 2003 with Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, but today during a event to promote the Zone of Enders HD collection in Japan Hideo Kojima indicated they are in the early stages of a new Zone of Enders project. Kojima has stated that Kojima Productions is in the very early stages of planning for the game or what they called early prototyping phase. Right now the team at Kojima Productions is testing the new studios internal Fox engine, according to Kojima they are taking character models and converting them into Fox engine assets. As of right now the project is referred to as code name "Enders Project", but it is not known right now if this will be a true sequel to the original games or if this will be an off shoot with new characters. In addition, it was announced that the Zone of Enders HD collection will be released in Japan on October 25, but no international release date has been set at this time. Personally I was never able to play the original games, which is why I have been looking forward to the HD collection for some time now. However, I know fans of the franchise have been waiting a long time for a true sequel to the franchise, and hopefully now they will be getting one. Although I would like to point out one thing that may be a negative, Kojima never specified if the game was being developed for current generation consoles or if they are developing the game for the next generation of consoles. The fact that the game is just now in the early stages of development suggest the game will not be released for a couple of years, in which case the game may be released on next generation systems. Hopefully we will know more about the game in the near future, but probably not at E3 unfortunately. The image above is concept art released by Kojima for the "Enders Project".
