10 Essential Hardcore Bands

Ten hardcore bands that provide enough energy and adrenaline you'll feel invincible!

By James Weaver /

Riffs, breakdowns and big men bellowing into a microphone. That is just the simplest way to describe hardcore music, a scene jam-packed full of bands that provide enough adrenaline to make you run a marathon! For a genre that has grown wildly and developed incredibly variety since the late 1970s there are now so many bands for your listening pleasure, it can often be rather difficult to find a starting point to begin your spin-kicking fury. But for many, hardcore is seen as a marmite genre often creating polar opposite reactions amongst those who have an ear for the heavier side of music. It is either a firm nod of the head or absolute disgust, there's rarely a middle ground. So with a wealth of bands and polarised opinions in the alternative community the sole purpose of this list is to provide ten hardcore bands, from the old-school veterans to the new kids on the block, the following ten hardcore bands are absolutely essential for the adrenaline seekers who crave down-tuned guitars, ferocious vocals and simply raw aggression. Whether you're an established fan or relatively new to the scene then the following ten bands are essential for your music library!

10. Brutality Will Prevail

Originating from Wales, Brutality Will Prevail's approach to hardcore is refreshingly new when often new-wave bands just recycle and refine the original formula. BWP's style ticks all the boxes of the hardcore formula as well as almost combining elements and influence from doom and traditional heavy metal, at the end of the day for BWP it is all about the riffs! The Path for example is just jam-packed full of riffs that encourage a serious case of whiplash and their latest release, Suspension of Consciousness, is one of the most aggressive releases of 2014. With performances at Impericon Festival and the prestigious Reading & Leeds Festival already under their belt, Brutality Will Prevail are steadily building a solid legion of devoted fans which just showcases the new-wave bands can pack as hard a punch as the veterans!
