Lady Gaga: 10 Most Outrageous Outfits

By Miss Fancye /

Rolling Stone journalist Neil Strauss once said 'Lady Gaga is art - her art is not a mask, it is her life.' The New Yorker Stefani Joanna Angelina Germanotta known commonly to the world as Lady Gaga rose to fame (incidentally after which she named her debut album) in 2008 as an artist, a pop and fashion icon and an equal rights activist for the gay/lesbian/transgender community. She is often described as kooky and odd because of the way she chooses to express herself through fashion. But it's this unique, non-conformist style which has rocketed her into contemporary popular culture relevance. She not only demands people's attention and curiosity, she has created an entire following and fan base called 'Little Monsters' who collectively embrace being outcast from mainstream society and labelled weirdos. Lady Gaga sees her audience as a collection of mini versions of her socially and romantically rejected self - her success is the ultimate misfit's revenge. Gaga has stated she takes artistic inspiration from Grace Jones, Andy Warhol, Madonna, Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen who shape her musical and fashion creativity. The pop icon would rather look interesting than pretty: "I don't feel that I look like the other perfect little pop singers. I think I look new. I think I'm changing what people think is sexy." The ten outfits I've identified in this article are only a few of many head turning fashion choices Lady Gaga has worn - like them or not, Gaga the artist doesn't just throw on these outfits without forethought, she has input into the creation of every piece she wears - they truly are a statment of her creative self.
