Wekeed - For Those Who Love Music

By Jordan Webb /

Chances are, you haven't heard of Wekeed before now. And that's fine, because now you have and if I'm honest, I hadn't too until a few weeks ago. So, for what reason am I making the effort to write about them? Put simply, never have I been so engrossed by an up and coming musical project such as Wekeed and I love music...like, I LOVE music.

The elusive musical duo from Paris have certainly not revealed a lot about themselves, but their somewhat anecdotal bio on their Twitter and Facebook pages set the serene tone to their musical style:

"We are WEKEED. The wild union of a girl & a boy brought together by life. Just like other couples make love, we make music."

So, with their shared love of music creating the undertone to the entire project, what direction do these two Parisians take? Well, judging by their Soundcloud page the duo began with their own take on the Crystal Fighters song, Plage, an upbeat and obscure track that rouses even the most lethargic of us to grab a towel and beach ball and hurry on down to the beach. What did Wekeed do to this? Made it even more fun and enigmatic than it already was. The broken beat of the chorus gives the song that vivacious house-party feel. To summarise, they started their career perfectly.

The centre piece of their young musical archive is without a doubt, Wild Child. It's been a while since a song has been played as repetitively as this, and I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to my house-mates, who have endured weeks of listening to this one song. It's good, but I think I may have overdone it. Sorry guys.

It's a track that can be utilised on any occasion, at a party, in the car, anywhere. What's even better, is that this song is free to download. Jump on in!

The distorted vocals can prove humorous if you dare to try and sing along, but the melody and beat ooze that trademark French electronic sound that has become so popular over the past few years. The only fault I can find with this track is that it makes me crave the summer sun, which, sitting a few feet under snow in frozen Britain, isn't a pleasant feeling. Perhaps I'll crank up the central heating, pop on a pair of swimming trunks and have my own beach-bash in my room. That's a cool thing to do right? Thought so.

So if you are to do anything new today, please please please check these guys out. The more support they get, the more music they'll churn out. Follow them on Twitter, @TheWekeed, or give them a like on Facebook.

Ah, and finally. If you're planning on heading to a house party any time soon and find yourself in the precarious position of DJ, I'd recommend their remix of The Bait. You can't go wrong. And you can thank me later!
