10 Problems Only Skateboarders Will Understand

It's not all ripped jeans and long hair, but you'll all understand these feelings.

Skateboarding is amazing. It can link kids in London to girls in Afghanistan, to West Coast surfers in the United States. Part of this commonality is the inexhaustible list of problems which we understand and face on an almost daily basis. Outsiders will not understand the capacity of a tiny thing to irritate you and push you to the edge, and they will always be at a loss to understand what the appeal of throwing yourself down a huge set of stairs is. Whether you started skateboarding because you thought Marty McFly was the coolest guy ever, or because you thought of yourself as a Bart Simpson kind of character, or if you grew up on the Tony Hawk games, there is always a uniting thread that means you will always have a place within this community of misfits. You may have a £200 set up with hollowed trucks and a new carbon fibre deck, but at the end of the day you are going to understand the same issues as the kid down the street with a plank of wood and plastic trucks. Skateboarding gives you a new lens; you see the world not only as a place to work, play and have fun, but you see architecture as something begging to be used. That seemingly insatiable urge to try and find a creative outlet for you passions can only be found through one thing; hopping on a board, jumping down stairs, grinding on a ledge or performing some majestic flip to satisfy your desires.
