It's sometimes easy to forget about the frankly extraordinary advancements we've made in such a short amount of time. Just a couple of decades ago, it would have seemed completely mind blowing that one day we'd be able to, say, grow a beating heart in a lab, create an artificial star, or map and edit our own DNA. Okay, it still seems pretty mind blowing, but these are the kinds of things that we're working on today and, if we can nail them, they might just revolutionise the world as we know it. As always, the scientists are tinkering away in the back room and bringing us ever closer to a science fiction future that we have so far only be able to imagine. We could be just a few major breakthroughs away from holidaying throughout the solar system, living into our 150s and then uploading our brains into a computer and living forever in a virtual world (okay, that might be jumping the gun a little, but it's possible). So, let's take a look at the wonders the future might hold, if we could just clear a couple more hurdles.
