The months leading up to a major football tournament can be just as exciting and event filled as the actual competition itself. National newspapers crank up the hype, citizens adorn themselves in their respective colours and players rule themselves out of contention at the slightest mention of a metatarsal. Catching the world at the height of footballing interest, official tournament brands and sponsors are well aware that fans are there for the taking. Some, such as Nike and Adidas, have made an art form of creating pre-competition adverts, which are often more enthralling than some of the games themselves. Last years Euro 2012 tournament lead Nike to offer the empowering My Time Is Now advert, showcasing the respective talents of just about every single footballer able to kick a ball at the time. Unfortunately, even with the added close-up of Frank Riberys face in slow-motion, I believe there have been at least 10 better examples of football advertising over the years. Whether its seeing a bearded Rooney living in a caravan, Ryan Giggs selling flowers at the side of the road or Thierry Henry trashing his house, weve all got a favourite. To see if yours makes the list, we start with number 10 . . . . Please note: This list contains at least 90% of your recommended daily allowance of Eric Cantona.
