10 Best NFL Quarterbacks Of All Time

Ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl... who is the greatest?

By Sam Driver /

A Quarterback can make or break a team. The job requires focus, a willingness to succeed - and luck. It requires precision, both mentally and physically, someone willing to sacrifice everything for their team, prepared to carry the large weight of a franchise on their shoulders if needs be. QBs need to put in the extra hours, they need to study other teams, locate weaknesses and strengthen their offences accordingly, they need to make calls that will ultimately lead to great victories, or crushing defeats. This is why the Quarterback position is held so highly in the sport. It takes a special kind of person to undertake such a role, not everyone can just put on a pair of pads and lead a team in the professional leagues. That being said, to make it to the NFL in the first place, you need to be the cream of the crop – it's not as if they just let anyone in, so with such high competition, who can be classed as a stand-out QB among the ranks of thousands that have filled the position over the years? We're here with our selection of the 10 greatest players to ever play as QB in NFL history.

10. Joe Montana

"The Catch". Need we say any more?

Montana was always destined for greatness, throwing over 40,500 yards and 273 TDs in his career - bolstered by his breakout postseason performances (4x Super Bowl Champ, that unparalleled 92 yard drive in dying time to win Super Bowl XXIII). The guy was so good that he kept the mighty Steve Young tied to the bench for 3 years.

He eventually saw out his last 2 years in the league with The Chiefs, in what would be an entirely uneventful affair for such a landmark player.
