Arsenal are looking into the possibility of signing France's Under-21 international midfielder Florian Thauvin, the Ligue 1 side Bastia have claimed (source ESPN). Earlier this week the Corsican club rejected a £2.5m offer from Newcastle United for Thauvin, who actually celebrates his 20th birthday today but the Ligue 1 side seems prepared for further interest from the Premier League. Bastia are currently 13th in Ligue 1 with a total of 25 points. The Orléans-born midfielder has so far made 14 appearances, bagging 3 goals from 10 shots on target in the league. Club president Pierre-Marie Geronimo has claimed to have had conversations with the Gunners boss Aresene Wenger over Thauvin. The deal however looks nowhere near completion, with Geronimo reportedly saying;
"We have not received any firm offer from Arsenal and, thus, there is no question of the 5 million reported. This week I have had Arsène Wenger on the phone twice. He expressed his interest in the player to us, but it has not gone beyond that."
Arsène Wenger has recently declared his concern regarding the size of his squad but the veteran manager has also reiterated his well-known "value for money" policy. Source: ESPN
