After being defeated by Alistair Overeem in the first round of UFC 141 main event, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar has retired from the sport. The 34 year old said he had promised his family that he would retire after the match and he thanked Dana White and the fans for their support. A return to pro wrestling for the first time since 2006 and likely a return to the World Wrestling Entertainment where he made his name for the first time since 2004 now seem almost certainly on the cards. In pro wrestling terms, Lesnar is at the perfect age for a second run at the top and earn the most money outside of UFC. He is still one of the biggest draws in MMA or pro wrestling and Vince McMahon has been desperate for him to agree to a WrestleMania big day for years. In recent months we have seen momentum build between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar build over social media where they seemed to be working towards a dream match at a WrestleMania (likely in 2013 as WWE already has The Rock vs John Cena as a marquee match this year) and Lesnar's recent deal to feature in the WWE 12 video game is proof that the two sides can thrash out terms. There is also of course the Lesnar vs Undertaker match after their confrontation a while back but that scenario, at least at WrestleMania would require Lesnar to lose and I don't think he would be ready for doing that yet. Perhaps with some tongue in cheek, wrestlers Chris Jericho and Rob Van Dam reacted to Lesnar's retirement from UFC and Twitter; Chris Jericho: "So obvious the 1/2-02 mystery man is Brock Lesnar. That fight was a joke #ufcisfixed @speewee #memphis" Rob Van Dam: "Looks like we'll soon see a familiar face in the WWE."
