Manchester United Fans Chant Anti-Liverpool Songs During 4-0 Win Over Wigan

Today’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Wigan at Old Trafford was supposed to be a day of celebration.

Everything should have been about the game and the occasion, yet despite United manager Sir Alex Ferguson calling for chants deemed unacceptable to be stopped (as reported by the BBC), echoed round Old Trafford were anti-Liverpool songs only days after the real events of the Hillsborough tragedy were disclosed, 23 years on. Only yesterday Fergie was giving his judgment to the BBC on the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989 which 96 people lost their lives. He stated that he hoped a line would be drawn in the sand on the sour relations between Manchester United and Liverpool. However today, a small minority of United fans were heard singing "Always the victims, never your fault". In a statement, United said:

"The manager has made the club's position very clear on this matter. It is now up to the fans to respect that."
According to the Mirror, Manchester United have said tonight they €œdeplore€ the anti-Liverpool chanting which occurred during the game. Manchester United will next face Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield next Sunday in what is expected to be a hostile environment.
