If I asked a room full of people whether they would rather play the hero or the villain in a TV show or film, I can guarantee that the vast majority would go to the dark side. There is something enticing about channeling evil and as such the villain often emerges as the most interesting and rounded character. There is no set mould for creating the perfect villain within a narrative; it's the subtleties and quirks brought forward by individual actors that makes them special. This feature focuses on such performances - the ones who stole the spotlight out from a show's protagonist and became the most interesting thing on screen. It's worth remembering that there would be no place for heroics on television if it weren't for these morally reprehensible human beings, after all. And whilst most of them are murderers and manipulators, this doesn't mean that we can't enjoy their villainy while it lasts. Many of today's television shows feature so much moral ambiguity that you simply can't tell who's in the right and who's in the wrong. We live in the age of the anti-hero - the flawed character just trying to do the right thing. That's all well and good, but I find that it's always refreshing when a story allows for an out and out villain. Without further ado, then, here are my top 10 picks for TV villains who stole the show... As we're talking about various TV shows, please note that there's a SPOILER warning in effect.
