15 Creepiest Creatures From Angel

It's enough to keep you up at night.

We've explored The X-Files cavalcade of creeps, and experienced Buffy's ghastly menagerie of ghouls, so lets take a look at another show heavy on the featured creatures - Angel. Angel (sometimes referred to as AtS, or Angel the Series) was a spin-off of Buffy that began with Angel, the vampire with a soul, leaving Buffy and her home town of Sunnydale and heading to Los Angles looking for... something. A new start. Redemption. Solid ratings. For four seasons, Angel was the yang to Buffy's yin, and after Buffy went off the air, Angel continued on for a fifth and final season. While the two parted networks towards the end, the early seasons were rife with crossovers, including characters such as fan favourites Spike and Oz in the show's first season (Spike would return in the fifth and final season with James Marsters added as a starring member of the cast). Early on - lets say the second season - Angel established itself as a separate entity, unique in style and tone from its better known progenitor. Angel was darker, more adult, and took advantage of every inch of leeway having a later timeslot than Buffy afforded it, even if it was a single hour of difference. Angel became much watch TV as Buffy was fading into the night in its sixth and seventh seasons (this was in part due to creator Joss Whedon being stretched thin, as at one point, Buffy, Angel, and Firefly were simultaneously in production, with Buffy in the hands of Marti Noxon, who fans reviled, while the much more respected Tim Minear and Jeff Bell, of X-Files renown, handled Angel, along with David Fury and other key writers and producers. Interesting note, in addition to Minear and Bell, another X-Files vet, Howard Gordon, was involved with the early seasons of the show). Along with that dark tone, be it from the later timeslot or the influence of writers and producers brought in from the more serious in nature X-Files, came some seriously creepy creatures: some human, some not so human, some outright undead, and many who you just plain wanted dead. What was fantastic about Angel, however, was that it displayed more of a moral grey area than the good vs. evil, line drawn in the sand standard of Buffy (that's not to say that Buffy, or Spike, or even Giles never crossed that line - just that it was a much rarer occurrence). As a result, some of the creatures you meet on this list might not just be foes of Angel - in fact they might have been allies of sorts at times. Reluctant allies at least.
