NBC has renewed "30 Rock" for a seventh and final season, comprising of just 13 episodes. The final episodes of the show will air in the 2012-13 season, bringing the final episode count to 138. Though it is being reported there is an option for a 14th episode should they require it. The last show of the current sixth season titled "What Will Happen to the Gang Next Year?" will air next Thursday. For the past few years as the show entered its final episodes of every season, speculation regularly spread that the show was about to be cancelled. In previous years speculation that Alec Baldwin would quit the show to move into politics was rife, but the show always kept a steady and loyal audience that kept the show being renewed. Though in the past few weeks, word that the show was coming to an end grew stronger and now we officially know it is coming to and end with a much shorter final season, a whole 9 episodes shorter than the current series. 30 Rock was averaging around 4.6 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49.
