It's an interesting time to be involved in television, perhaps the most interesting we've ever experienced. There's a quality to our television programs that we've never seen before. You can look at declining ticket sales at movie theaters and point one finger at the increase in the quality of television programming. Who wants to go sit in a theater when you can stay on the couch and watch something ultimately more fulfilling in the comfort of your own home? That's not to say that everything is great in TV land. We still have a SERIOUS reality television problem -- one that seems to be rooted and not going anywhere. This is exactly what makes this time so interesting. For every Mad Men we have five singing competition shows. Every single episode we get of Game of Thrones, we know that there were HUNDREDS of hours of insipid reality programming over the course of that particular week. What we're going to do here is outline five reasons why television has never been better and then counter that with five reasons why television is doomed. Maybe it should be five reasons why WE'RE doomed because let's face it, we're the ones who feel the repercussions of poor television. And then, I'm sure that there are some of you who would like to point out that we're debating the quality of "the idiot box" and I'd like to tell you, you're right.
