"If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it." That was Elmore Leonard's number 1 rule for writing, something he knew a thing or two about. As you might expect Justified, a TV series based on some of his works, very much adheres to this rule across all six of its seasons. It has built up a loyal fanbase and won a huge amount of critical acclaim during its run, earning a lot of praise for its writing, directing, and acting, led by star Timothy Olyphant. However, it aired in an era where there have been a lot of similarly well-loved shows just on FX, nevermind other networks, from Sons of Anarchy to American Horror Story. It needed something extra to set it apart from the rest of the pack, and it found that by taken inspiration straight from the source, with a number of memorable lines consistently appearing across the 78 episodes. It had to successfully portray the character of Raylan Givens (Olyphant) as a US Marshal out of time, a man with an Old West style of justice living in the modern world, and with it encompass a sense of danger, power, and a rather dark sense of humour.
