5 Ways 24: Live Another Day Can Avoid Sucking

By Barry Marshall /

It has been a long time since we crossed paths with Federal Agent Jack Bauer, the world's unluckiest government employee. Three years, in fact; Last we saw Bauer, he was on the run after brutally slaughtering many Russian bad guys and briefly attempting to assassinate the Russian president. Next Spring, Jack is back in 24: Live Another Day and fans of the show are already whetting their lips in anticipation of more death, destruction and "Dammits!". Or most fans, anyway. Their is a sizable element of the show's fanbase, myself included, that think that the ending to series 8 capped the story off nicely after a ruinous few years of diminishing returns. Is there really any need to drag Jack back now? Will the show's makers avoid the lazy characterisation and ludicrous plot twists that blighted the later years? I've surmised the reasons why the show began to rot so badly from seasons 5 onwards, and thought of a few ways in which the new series can avoid the same pitfalls. This largely involves Jack staying as far away from women as humanly possible.
