8 Ways Westworld Is Basically A Video Game

Who would have thought it: not only did Westworld storm onto screens promising to meet our collective burning need for fantasy fulfilment when Game of Thrones ends in a couple of seasons, but it also immediately rivalled its fellow HBO show for the best thing on TV this year. Its unraveling narrative, mysterious characters and secretive setting have managed to grip audiences.

The more intricate elements of the show's plot has already grip fans. After every episode the internet is awash with in depth theories and analysis delving into what's just happened and what might be to come. Not since Lost has a TV show had such a wide and devoted audience losing their minds over grandiose issues such as life, love and self-discovery.

Despite being a re-imaging of a film from the seventies, Westworld is truly a TV series for the modern worldand consequently, the wayone of the biggest developing phenomena of the 21st Century - video games - has influenced this innovative and intricate tale is very explicit and intriguing. What the show owes that medium is a particularly telling revelation, and when you break it down, the influences actually help add to the viewing experience.

8. Levels

As this first season has progressed, viewers were slowly introduced to more and more locations. Many characters have distinguished between the difficulty of certain areas and stated that the further you venture out into the park the more treacherous it gets.

A prime example is when Logan (Ben Barnes) is attacked and restrained by the hosts in Episode 5. This is something we hadn’t experienced up until that point, with much of the season taking place in what seems to be representative of a tutorial level, a small town called Sweetwater.

The Westworld park appears to be hugely diverse and as the season progresses it seems likely that the areas will become more fascinating and unique. Bringing with them a higher level of difficulty for the hosts.
