Agents Of SHIELD Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Coulson and the gang return Tuesday 29 September.
The return of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is upon us, which means our lives will soon be filled once again with Coulson, Skye (sorry, Daisy), TV-level MCU action, and way too many periods (er, the punctuation kind).
Season 2 ended in May and left things perfectly placed to be picked back up once season 3 gets underway, and there are a number of plotlines to resolve that should make for compelling viewing. Not least there was the spread of the Terrigen Crystals via fish oil capsules, Skye taking on more of a leadership role (and a new name), the tease of more Grant Ward, and of course the little matter of just what the hell has happened to Simmons.
It promises to continue expanding the world of the show and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, introducing more elements that will have an impact on the films later down the line, and a potential tie-in to Captain America: Civil War towards the end of the season.
Despite getting off to a very slow start, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has now managed to establish itself and a fanbase, developing some really interesting characters and exciting storylines. As it enters its third year it needs to keep doing that, but on a far more consistent basis, and with the bar set to raise once again, here's everything you need to know about season 3.
10. Hail Hydra
You'd be forgiven for thinking Hydra had been wiped out, given the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the aftermath that played out in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., prompting the massive turnaround in quality of the show. They've mostly been existing in the shadows, in a rather scattered form, but now they're coming back - or what's left of them, at least.
Season 2 ended with a few remaining agents gathering around a new leader, set to regroup and once more pose a threat to S.H.I.E.L.D. and national security. That man, and the reason to be excited, is Grant Ward.
Brett Dalton was superb in the role last year as he continued his villainous turn, the only problem being there wasn't quite enough of him. Thankfully we'll be getting much more this year, as he takes the organisation up against his former teammates.
