Bloody Opening Scene Of AMC's Preacher Is Online
It's the time of the Preacher.
After decades in development hell (perhaps not just a figure of speech in this instance), Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's controversy-baiting 90s comic book Preacher is at last making it to the screen.
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, in cahoots with Breaking Bad alumnus Sam Catlin, have succeeded where many before them failed in adapting the DC Vertigo title for TV - and, as this opening scene will make clear to anyone who's read the comic, they haven't stuck too slavishly to the source material.
This scene should also allay any fears that, while the show is going out on US network TV, it will have to hold back on the visceral excess of Ennis and Dillon's twisted vision...
While we only get a brief glimpse of the title character here, Preacher will centre on Dominic Cooper (known to comic book movie fans as the MCU's young Howard Stark) in the role of Jesse Custer, a disillusioned Texas minister with a drink problem and a somewhat shady past, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he comes into contact with a mysterious, ethereal entity named Genesis.
In a deviation from the comics, it would seem that Jesse is not the first preacher to be visited by Genesis - and, judging by what happens to the first guy in Africa, we can assume Jesse's made of stronger stuff.
Whatever happens, this is going to be a pretty weird TV show - and I for one can't wait to see it.
Preacher begins in the US this Sunday, and you can read more about it here.
