Boardwalk Empire's fourth season has ended and while it may not have been nearly as exciting as last year's finale with Harrow's one-man massacre, 'Farewell Daddy Blues' certainly delivered with its amount of great writing, acting and shocks. It offered a nice, slow burn throughout the episode, building up the intensity until the episode's climax. The finale efficiently tied many of the loose ends from this season together while closing the book on some hated and loved characters, shaking the status quo up for next season. Let's look at six of the awesome moments from Boardwalk's finale and how they satisfied the fans.
6. The Opening
Nothing spelt trouble for Nucky and the Atlantic City clan like the opening minute to the episode. Audiences watched as Chalky White and his gang silently gathered up Nucky's security on the beach and laid them on the ground. What helped set the scene was how quiet it was. The only sound available was the voiceover of Nucky and Sally's phone conversation taking place inside the house. It also marked a change in the way Chalky was organizing his revenge. He's never been a very subtle person throughout the series; he's very prone to fits of rage and allows emotions to get the better of him. It was, after all, mere episode ago he violently shot up Dr. Narcisse's place of business which put him in his current position. The slow, methodical way he rounded Nucky's men up and quietly snuck in to speak with Nucky was unlike anything we had seen Chalky do. It illustrated he was thinking with his head this time around in fact, perhaps for the first time this season and a thinking, methodical Chalky is always a fearsome proposition.
