Doom Patrol Season 1 Premiere Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

DC Universe looks to bolster its fast-growing platter of streaming content with Doom Patrol, adapted of course from the legendary cult DC comic of the same name.

And though the streaming service got off to a shaky start with the mixed response to Titans last year, it's safe to say that Doom Patrol is a far more exciting proposition from the jump.

Smartly delineated from any mainline DC properties and characters - despite the team being introduced in Titans' fourth episode - the show's season premiere is full of shrewd creative choices, namely focusing on character-driven drama above all else.

But make no mistake, Doom Patrol also brings the glossy wonder you'd hope for from a superhero show, while skirting clear of many of the pitfalls that harangue so many similar series.

Fingers crossed that the show can maintain this level of consistency across its 15-episode first season, because this is a very encouraging start indeed...
