It's time to boldly go where no TV show has gone before... or at least not for 12 years.

After a number of delays and unfortunate setbacks, such as original showrunner Bryan Fuller departing the project, the first Star Trek TV series since Enterprise ended in 2005 is finally ready to be beamed around the world.

Star Trek: Discovery is coming to CBS All Access in the fall, and now we've got the first full trailer for the new series, which is light on plot but gives a good idea of what we can expect the series to look like, and who the main characters will be.

Leading the way is Sonequa Martin-Green's Michael Burnham, aka Number One, the First Officer aboard the USS Discovery, and first non-Captain protagonist of a Star Trek series. Alongside her we see Michelle Yeoh's Captain Georgiou, of the USS Shenzhou.

Interesting, the trailer seems to suggest that Burnham is from Vulcan, or rather that she was at least raised there for a period of her life, as we get an appearance from Spock's father (now played by James Frain).

Aside from that, there's some very clear messaging on when the series takes place - "Ten years before Kirk... Ten years before Spock..." - and a look at Vulcans, a new take on the Klingons, and some of the production design and CGI, which looks a lot better than people might've expected.

It's not a trailer that gives too much away, and after so many setbacks it's difficult to get a good grasp on just what the series will be like, but there are at least some promising signs here, if not ones that immediately get you hyped.CBS also confirmed that an additional two episodes had been ordered, now 15 instead of 13.
