Game Of Thrones Season 7 Finale: Jon Snow's Real Name Revealed
Basically, his father had no imagination.
So there you have it; another season of Game Of Thrones is done with after an incredibly explosive, story-packed finale that absolutely lived up to the hype. Crucially, it even made up for some of the issues that almost threatened to derail the last episode, and brought revelations, deaths and world-changing events.
Lots of things from the episode are going to be talked about for a long time, but the coming together of Jon Snow and Dany was arguably the most important event in the entire episode. It might not have been as explosive as the Wall falling, or as shocking as Jaime turning on Cersei, but it was a moment that sets Jon's position in place perfectly.
Bran finally explained to Samwell Tarly (of all people), that Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, as opposed to being the bastard of Ned Stark, while Sam told Bran about the annulled marriage that makes Jon the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
At that point we got a flashback of the wedding of Rhaegar and Lyanna - a very touching moment - and the confirmation, finally, that Jon Snow's real name is in fact Aegon Targaryen. As in, the exact same name as Rhaegar's other son from his marriage to Elia Martell.
Presumably Lyanna heard it and decided it was really nice without caring that it might cause issues with confusion.
Crucially, the key information wasn't transmitted in time - or to the right people - to stop Jon and Dany getting down to business (which was always clearly the end-goal of having Bran weirdly sit on the information). And there's absolutely no way that tryst won't lead to them getting pregnant with a son, who will be the prince that was promised.
And who will probably also be called f*cking Aegon too.
