Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "The Children"

Our last trip to Westeros this season...

By Adam Holmes /

Last week, season four of Game of Thrones finished, and man, did things end with a bang. In past seasons, the tenth episodes have typically acted as an epilogue of sorts to the bombastic ninth episodes. Not this year. While the show has always had good season finales, this year actually felt like a true finale. Plot threads were wrapped up, many cliffhangers for season 5 were left, and, in true Game of Thrones fashion, a lot of people died. Seriously, A LOT. It€™s probably been said before, but this season has to have the most major character deaths so far. It can€™t get any more bloodthirsty than this...can it? Almost everyone was in this episode, from Jon and Arya to Bran and Tyrion. To paraphrase George Costanza from Seinfeld, €œWorlds collided!€ Characters that had storylines seemingly unrelated to one another met for the first time. Other characters bid farewell to each other as they entered the next step of their lives. Tough decisions were made, journeys ended and there was plenty of action to spread around. Although some of the character storylines have branched into the fourth and fifth books of A Song of Ice and Fire, this season mostly adapted the second half of A Storm of Swords. Well, €œThe Children€ certainly was a fitting ending to this saga of the show, and season 5 will kick off a new era next year. Man, we have to wait another year for more episodes...no, guys, don€™t start crying now! You can always watch past seasons or even start reading the books. They€™re really good! €œThe Children€ was jam-packed with so much that it earns 1st prize for busiest episode of the season. To help you remember everything, here are the 10 important things we learned from the episode. As usual, no book spoilers. Only TV analysis, although the book readers will know that this episode deviated quite a bit from the original source material, with one omission in particular enraging fans (search for it if you dare).
