It's been a long summer without Mac, Jack, Riley, Bozer, Matty and the rest of the guys at the Phoenix Foundation, but we need not fret any longer as MacGyver is finally back.

After the second season finale saw Mac discover that Oversight is actually his father, the crafty creator quit his beloved job at the Phoenix Foundation. The Season 3 premiere (entitled Improvise) picks up several months later, and the status quo couldn't be more different. Mac has set up a new life for himself in Nigeria, and appears to be much happier for it. But, as you'd expect, it's not long before an inciting incident manages to drag the inventive agent away from his new normal and back to the centre of the action.

Improvise couldn't be a more apt title for this premiere episode, because without an official mission in his life, that's exactly what Mac is doing. For a plot-of-the-week TV series, this instalment is surprisingly fresh, and it delivers on pretty much every front, keeping viewers glued to their seats the entire way through. If the rest of Season 3 is even remotely as good as this first episode, then we're in for a real treat.
