Today might be about The Defenders, with the eight episode team-up event hitting Netflix, but attentions have already turned towards the future.

Even though most people won't have had a chance to watch The Defenders in full yet, the first teaser trailer for The Punisher series - which is next up on the Netflix Marvel slate - has been released (first debuting at the end of The Defenders itself).

The focus is very much on Jon Bernthal's titular character here, in what is less of a narrative trailer and more of a mood-setter, and that's something it does very well. It's not heavy on action, but what we see is as dark and foreboding as you'd expect for a TV show about Frank Castle, and Jon Bernthal looks great in the role once again.

The bulk of the teaser is of Castle wielding a sledgehammer to carve out his logo in the concrete, while showing us how much the past - or more specifically, his family being murdered - is what drives the character. There are a few other hints in there too, including his military past and him putting a shotgun to good use.

There's still no word on exactly when the series will arrive, but it's expected to hit Netflix in November.
