Although much of the focus as far the Netflix Marvel Universe is concerned is on The Defenders, there's also a lot of excitement for The Punisher's solo series.

Ever since Jon Bernthal gave a near-definitive take on the character in Daredevil Season 2, fans have been clamouring for more, with Netflix greenlighting the series last year. It's been a long wait since then, but now we do seemingly know when the series will arrive.

THR interviewed director Dearbhla Walsh, and one of the questions that arose was whether or not she'd worked in North America before, to which she gave the following response:

“One other time that hasn’t been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it’s not airing until November. I directed that in New York and edited in L.A., but this was my first directing experience in lovely Canada.”

It's not 100% official of course, but we can probably take her at her word. The release date fits with what we'd expected, since it mirrors the release of Jessica Jones, while Luke Cage also arrived in the fall (albeit slightly earlier), and gives a good period of time between The Defenders (which arrives on August 18) and The Punisher.

Little else is really known about the series so far, apart from most of the cast being in place - including Ben Barnes and Deborah Ann Woll - but it should be the darkest, most brutal MCU entry to date.
