Marvel's Agents of Shield must surely be the most anticipated new show of 2013. It has the much loved Agent Coulson at the lead. It's a spin off of the massive Avengers franchise. And it's got television god himself, Joss Whedon himself behind it (including directing the pilot episode). Any of those elements alone would be enough to create a buzz. All three together...it has to be a success. Sure there could be disappointment - how could this show ever live up the hype you might ask? But then we had that first trailer which got everyone, myself included, very excited. And now US's Entertainment Weekly has revealed more details that to me, only add to the anticipation for this show. So let's run through the breakdown... 1) We're not going to get that big revelation as to how Coulson survived /was resurrected after his death at the hands of Loki in The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble ifyou'reinthe UK like me... because we might have got this confused with that terrible remake of the cult TV series with Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes). Instead, Agent Coulson will not even be aware of what happened to him. Why? Well that's the mystery that will play out throughout the series. Sounds intriguing to me... 2) The series will work alongside other Marvel films after and before The Avengers. As to how much of a link there is, we don't know yet...but apparently the first episode is familiar to one of the films the audience has already watched. Can't see it being Agent Coulson versus Frost Giants...so who knows? Will this precede the first Iron Man? Coulson was around then. Or will it be post The Avengers with flashbacks to the past? 3) There's been a lot of speculation as to who J August Richards (of Angel fame) is playing. Apparently all will be revealed at Comic Con... Already the scope of this show seems bigger than I imagined it would be. I'm hoping for another moment of Joss Whedon magic when the first episode plays on our screens later this year. (Hopefully the UK won't be too far behind the US on this one!). In the meantime, I'm off to watch my Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly DVDs...
