New SHERLOCK HOLMES U.S. TV Show In The Works!
It’s been announced that the US television network CBS has bought the rights to develop a brand new series that is obviously intended as an American rival to the current and very popular BBC show.
Sherlock Holmes is returning to TV screens in a present day setting, updating Sir Arthur Conan Doyles classic mysteries for modern audiences, and no, Im not talking about season 2 of BBCs Sherlock. Its been announced that the US television network CBS has bought the rights to develop a brand new series that is obviously intended as an American rival to the current and very popular BBC show. Rob Doherty, of 'Medium' and 'Tru Calling' fame, is set to write the pilot which, if picked up, will more than likely air in the Autumn of next year. Deadline describes the show as a modern take on the cases of the pipe-smoking private eye - which sounds incredibly similar to Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffats recent take on the character. Although completely unnecessary it would be intriguing to see what CBS would do to differentiate it from the BBC. It would obviously have a higher episode count than 3 a season, and presumably it would be more action oriented than the beeb. It raises some interesting questions, such as - in what country would apartment 221b be situated - England or America? Who could you possibly cast as Holmes and Watson? Being such a major network CBS can attract some star power to it which may be the way they go. Can the producers of this show really think of anything that would add or improve on anything that Moffat and Gatiss are currently doing?
