The long-awaited third season of Stranger Things has finally arrived on Netflix, and it's safe to say that it has made quite the impression.

Picking up a year after the events of the previous offering, Season 3 reintroduces us all to our favourite characters, but just as Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Will, Dustin and Max begin to realise that they're starting to want different things out of life, a familiar enemy rears its (really really ugly) head and threatens the safety of not just them but everyone in Hawkins.

Much of the events that followed ended up playing out as you'd expect them to, while others completely caught viewers off-guard - none more so than the somewhat ambiguous ending sequence.

In contrast to the show's second season, this installment ended on more of a sombre note - one that left the fates of many beloved characters up in the air. But, given that the show is likely going to receive a fourth season renewal from Netflix, all is not lost just yet.

That being said, just what do the events of the season finale mean for the show?
