If you've been keeping up to date with Supergirl's fourth season, you'll know that it has been heavily influenced by real-world events, with the show's action and its respective characters to battle intolerance and spread messages of acceptance and hope. How are the writers managing to do this? Well, by using National City's alien population and the attitudes towards them to spark deep and insightful conversations among its viewers.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that the latest episode followed a similar pattern. The outing, titled 'Parasite', saw Kara interview a beloved alien healer and, despite her best efforts to spread positivity, she couldn't prevent internet trolls from turning him into a target. Meanwhile, Alex was busy dealing with her new babysitter, Colonel Lauren Haley and James Olsen had to face the possibility that Guardian was becoming a hero for all the wrong reasons.

All in all, 'Parasite' was effective in continuing the show's trend of using its platform to spread important messages, recycling old tricks to create new conflicts while taking all of the current storylines in equally compelling directions.

Let's start with the positives...
