The Walking Dead's eighth season - and with it, the All Out War storyline - has found a greater sense of agency in the last couple of weeks.

While there were a couple of middling instalments following a solid premiere, both Some Guy and Big Scary U did a good job of increasing the level of quality, even if the ratings don't reflect that.

Both had some decent action beats and progressed the story, but what was most impressive was the way they gave real character development to two characters in serious need of extra depth. There was a sense of tragedy to Ezekiel's fall into being just "some guy", while Negan at long lost got a hint of backstory and Jeffrey Dean Morgan was allowed to portray a more complex, less cartoonish villain.

The King, The Widow, And Rick sees an argument break out at the Hilltop, Rosita and Michonne actually involved in the story, and how Ezekiel is faring after the losses of Shiva and so many people from the Kingdom. So could this week, titled after the show's three main leaders, keep that run going? It's a bit of a mixed bag.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 6.
