Gangster Squad Screenwriter To Write Training Day TV Remake

Alonso won't be here to corrupt anyone this time.

Does anyone remember Detective Alonso Harris? The corrupt cop who turns on LAPD Officer Jake Hoyt, played by Ethan Hawke, and gets himself in what could be described as a spot of bother with the Russian mafia? Well, he€™ll be returning to a small screen near you. CBS have told producer Antoine Fuqua to direct a pilot for the TV remake of Training day, fifteen years after the crime thriller aired. The film, which saw Denzel Washington win an Academy Award for Best Actor and MTV Movie Award for Best Villain, was a box office hit and stayed in the top ten until its seventh week of release. No, sadly Washington and Hawke won€™t be taking part in the reboot, but there will be a slight twist. Instead of a similar scenario, in which Alonso attempts to corrupt Hoyt, the TV series will flip the film around, finding: €œan idealistic young African-American police officer who is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with a seasoned, morally ambiguous Caucasian detective,€ The Hollywood Reporter claims. Will Beall, former LAPD homicide detective and Gangster Squad screenwriter, is in charge of writing the pilot, which he will be hoping turns out better than the Lethal Weapon TV remake he was previously woking on. The film will join a list of increasingly popular remakes, such as award-winning TV series Fargo, and Limitless.
