TV Review: Being Human 4.5 'Hold The Front Page'

Episode five sees our supernatural housemates on lock down in the hotel. Vampire Adam returns to the fold, only this time he has himself a girlfriend, kind of. His companion, Yvonne is much older than his usual type, only in appearance though as Adam is actually 47. However, Yvonne makes claims that men can't resist her, there's even mention of Brad Pitt going crazy over her. After Tom shakes her hand, he becomes infatuated with Yvonne, vivid dreams cause the infatuation to turn into obsession. This isn€™t new to Yvonne, young men seem to fall at her feet wherever she goes. Meanwhile, due to the age difference between Yvonne and Adam and the small matter of her being a school teacher, the press have started to gather outside the hotel. This causes a problem as the press are desperate to get a photograph of him, and as vampires don€™t show up on camera this could have devastating consequences. One photographer manages to get a picture of Adam smoking outside, but all he got was an empty space. The investigative journalist has been collecting evidence about the existence of vampires for years, since they murdered his family. Sadly this was the only weak link in a very strong episode. Pete€™s haunted past did come across as clichéd but it aided another terrific performance from xxx which more than made up for it. Cutler's long game is starting to take shape, making it appear as though there is a werewolf epidemic by making fake reports and clawing up bodies with a metal gardening tool. You have to respect a calculating bad guy. As it turns out Yvonne is a succubus, she casts a spell through touch and proximity that lures men to her. Adam is the only person she has been able to sleep with that hasn€™t died a gruesome death. Naturally or rather unnaturally, Yvonne wants to know if Adam cares for her without the spell, and surprisingly he does. Being Human excels at emotional finales, be it big sweeping heartbreaking ones or understated character changing endings. Adam and Yvonne€™s conversation through a door was both moving and funny; something that actor Craig Roberts seems to do with ease. After his performance in last year€™s indie film, Submarine he€™s bound for exciting things. The set up for the episode allowed for some great comic touches, Adam, Tom and Hal battling for Yvonne€™s affections added for some school boy humour. Although, the biggest shock of the episode was Tom€™s sudden and brutal death. Whilst this was quickly revealed as Hal€™s dream, it made us all think that another well liked character had been killed.
