WandaVision: MAJOR New Character Debuts!
WandaVision really brought this character over to the MCU?!
Throughout the promos for WandaVision, we have heard Wanda constantly saying “We don’t know what to expect.” While Episode 4 gave the audience a lot of answers, it turns out Wanda was right as fans were treated to their biggest surprise of the series.
This occurs at the end of the episode, after an argument between Wanda and Vision. Throughout the episode, Vision begins to discover that Wanda is in control of the reality they are living in and learns of the wrongdoings she has committed against the inhabitants of Westview.
During this argument, Vision lets Wanda know he cannot be controlled, and confronts her on how running this reality is wrong.
As the pair’s argument reaches boiling point, a familiar X-Men member enters the scene.
As Wanda opens the door, the show builds up the reveal. However, the camera eventually turns to this mysterious character's face and reveals the appearance of none other than Wanda’s brother Quicksilver. However, this Pietro Maximoff is not the character portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Age of Ultron, who was name dropped in Episode 3 by Monica Rambeau.
In fact, fans are reintroduced to Evan Peters’ portrayal of Quicksilver, who appears in X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This is intriguing, as all three films are outside of MCU canon and were established within their own universe.
This has left many to speculate as to why Evan Peters has appeared in Westview rather than Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It could be as simple as Darcy Lewis’ reaction to the reveal, where she questioned whether Pietro had been re cast and that Peters is portraying the version of Pietro that died at the hands of Ultron.
Another theory could be that this Quicksilver is Peter Maximoff from the X-Men universe and show’s connection to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could explain how Peter has ended up in the MCU universe.
If this is the case, WandaVision may have just given fans their first real connection to the X-Men in the MCU. Bringing in Evan Peters version of Quicksilver could lead to more X-Men integration into the Marcel Cinematic Universe, which has everyone excited!
It is unknown whether more X-Men characters from the Fox Universe will appear in WandaVision, but for now we are all just ecstatic to see Quicksilver reunited with Wanda and to see more of Evan Peters portraying the character.
With only three more episodes left of WandaVision, it is almost a certainty that fans are going to get answers sooner rather than later.
