Terry Funk is often listed among the pantheon of wrestlings great talkers, and not without cause. The Funker may not have been blessed with the evangelical charisma of Dusty Rhodes or the sesquipidalian vocabulary of the late Mr. Nicholas Bockwinkel, but one thing he did have was absolute conviction. It was often screaming, psychotic, violent conviction, but that was just Terrys style. He was a master of threatening people creatively, but he also had a gift for homespun self-aggrandizement; Randy Savage was the tower of power, and Ric Flair was a kiss-stealin', wheelin'-dealin' son of a gun, but Terry Funk was meaner than a rattlesnake and tougher than shoe leather. But that's not to say that the Funker didn't have a lighter side. He was also adept at comedy both highbrow and low, embracing the fart joke as well as the more sophisticated anecdote. Basically, every Terry Funk promo is a precious jewel of cowboy crazy, but they're all brilliant in their own ways. You won't find a great deal of overlap among these masterpieces (save, perhaps, the epithet egg-sucking dog), but you will see the heart and soul of a man that threw every bit of that heart and soul into every godforsaken syllable he ever uttered...
